Engineering plastics commonly used in electronic connectors

Among the many materials required for connector production, plastic is the most common one. With the increasing application scope of connectors, the selection of plastics also needs to be more targeted. The commonly used engineering plastics for electronic connectors include LCP, NYLON and PBT.
1、LCP
LCP has small linear expansion coefficient, low injection molding shrinkage, outstanding strength and elastic modulus, and excellent heat resistance. It has high load deformation temperature, some of which can reach more than 340 degrees. LCP also has excellent chemical resistance and air tightness. Therefore, LCP materials are preferred for common connectors and those requiring SMT.
2、NYLON
Low cost, high tensile strength, outstanding wear resistance, self crimping and sliding property, good fluidity, which is conducive to thin wall forming, but with severe shrinkage, it is easy to produce burrs. Before forming, it needs to be baked strictly to prevent hydrolysis. Generally, connectors, especially DIP, are mostly made of NYLON material.
3、PBT
Low cost, high strength, friction resistance, but poor formability, serious shrinkage, due to low melting temperature, plastic melting is easy to occur during wave soldering.
