The main factors affecting the contact resistance and reliability of PIN pins in RJ45 connectors

RJ45 interface, also known as crystal plug, is a type of information socket (i.e. communication outlet) connector in wiring systems. It consists of a plug (connector, crystal head) and a socket (module), with 8 grooves and 8 contacts. It and the socket (RJ45 module) together form a complete connector unit. This type of connector is widely used for connecting network cables between local area networks and ADSL broadband internet users' network devices, and is called a fifth level cable or twisted pair. There are several main factors that affect the contact resistance and reliability of the RJ45 connector PIN pin:
(1) Connector contact material: The technical conditions for RJ45 connectors specify different contact resistance assessment indicators for plug-in contacts of the same specification made of different materials. According to the general specification GJB101-86 for quick separation and environmental resistance rj45 connectors, the contact resistance of plug-in contacts with a diameter of 1mm is ≤ 5m Ω for copper alloys and ≤ 15m Ω for iron alloys.
(2) Surface vertical pressure of connector contact surface: The surface vertical pressure of RJ45 connector contact parts refers to the force generated by the surfaces in contact with each other and perpendicular to the contact surface. As the vertical pressure increases, the number and area of contact micro points also gradually increase, and at the same time, the contact micro points transition from elastic deformation to plastic deformation. Due to the gradual reduction of concentrated resistance, the contact resistance decreases. The positive contact pressure mainly depends on the geometric shape and material properties of the contact part.
(3) Surface cleanliness of contact parts: During use, the surface of RJ45 connector contact parts may form a relatively loose surface film due to mechanical adhesion and deposition of dust, oil, etc. on the contact surface. This surface film is easily embedded in micro pits on the contact surface due to the presence of particulate matter, which reduces the contact area, increases the contact resistance, and is extremely unstable. Therefore, some products with high reliability requirements, such as medical connectors, must have a clean assembly and production environment, a good storage environment, and a clean operating environment.
