Red flag! Sweden announces that Huawei 5G is banned, and upstream component manufacturers may invest conservatively

01

On October 20, local time, the Swedish Postal and Telecommunications Administration announced that it would “forbid companies participating in its 5G spectrum auction next month from using the equipment of Chinese technology companies Huawei and ZTE.” It was clearly stated in January 2025. The installed equipment will be removed 1 day ago.

This is the second European country that has officially stated that Huawei is excluded from 5G construction after the United Kingdom.

As a universal technology, in continuous practice, everyone can foresee that it will play an important role in the new round of digital transformation. At present, the global market potential value of 5G technology in major vertical industries has reached US$4.3 trillion.

Huawei has always been a strong competitor and builder in the global 5G market. Its 5G essential patents amount to 3147, ranking first in the world. In the 5G market share of the first quarter of 2020, Huawei alone accounted for 35.7%, leaving the second ranked Ericsson behind with a huge gap of 11.1%.

If other European countries follow the pace of restricting Huawei and ZTE, the number of global suppliers available in Europe will be reduced from five to three. This will not only increase operator costs and negatively affect equipment performance, but will also significantly delay the deployment of global 5G networks and limit the potential for innovation, which will have a negative impact on the overall 5G industry.

02

In addition to the impact on Huawei and Sweden's own 5G network construction, 5G upstream hardware manufacturers will also be affected.

As an interconnection component for data transmission and power supply, the connector is essential to ensure the stability and reliability of the system.

Today, the application scenarios of 5G connectors are mainly concentrated in the following aspects:

Coaxial RF connectors required for 5G antenna systems and test boards;

Signal and power connectors required for outdoor antennas and baseband systems;

High-performance servers and storage connectors required by base stations and edge data centers;

High-performance PCB connectors for network edge node equipment;

A wide range of board-to-board, wire-to-board, IO and other connectors.

However, it must be noted that the connectors in the 5G environment often require thorough performance innovation to be applicable. Therefore, a stable 5G market and a clear industry prospect can attract manufacturers to invest more research funds and improve technical strength to meet the high-performance, high-reliability, miniaturization, and diversified requirements of connectors in 5G applications.

When the world's largest 5G construction company, Huawei, is hitting a wall everywhere under political factors, other manufacturers have to consider the political risks they may face-or at least poor sales caused by the turmoil in the downstream market, leading to changes in investment. Be conservative.
